Top 5 Item Girls of Bollywood

Item numbers are back with a big bang and they are definitely here to stay for a while.

With the onset of the Sheila's and the Munni's item numbers have been given a new lease of life. An item number can make or break a film's success and the performer plays a more crucial role in it. Tagged as "item girls" these women in the list are considered hot assets of the film industry.

5. Mallika Sherawat

Her first act was 'Mayya Mayya' in the film 'Guru'. The Arabian style song was a runaway hit and was one of the highlights of the film. Mallika has once again donned the title of being an item queen by featuring in two back to back item numbers this year.

4. Urmila Matondkar

'Chamma Chamma' was an iconic song for Urmila Matondkar. People don't know where the film disappeared but they still remember the superhit song that Urmila jived to. The title track of Rangeela, though not an item number, also brought about a cult following for Urmila.

3. Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa not only looted UP and Bihar, but the entire nation with her killer moves. Her rustic act was sensational and probably shot up the collections of the film. She also shut people up and bounced her way with John and Abhishek in 'Dostana'.

2. Helen

Helen was the original dancing diva of Bollywood. She was the one who glorified the dance numbers on screen. Be it 'Mehbooba' or 'Yeh Mera Dil', Helen lit up the screen with her sensuous performances. She still remains a source of inspiration to many Bollywood actresses and dancers.

1. Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika showed the nation what an item number really was with 'Munni Badnaam Hui' in 'Dabangg'. The power of her class act and Salman Khan's stupendous acting, the film smashed all records. Malaika's previous acts, 'Chaiyya Chaiyya' and 'Mahi Ve' were also big hits and of iconic status in Bollywood.

Honourable Mention: Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone

Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone produced such amazing performances in 'Sheela Ki Jawani' and 'Dum Maaro Dum' that it would be unfair to leave them out of the list. They can not be labelled as item girls but the sheer amount of buzz that these two girls created with their performances is worthy of bringing them in the same league as these women.

Bollywood Item Boy: Photos Wallpapers Screen savers

A new era seems to have dawned upon the Hindi film industry as more and more men have started grooving to the so-called ‘item songs’ which have, for long, been ruled by women. With major Bollywood actors jumping in at the prospect of performing in an item number, no one seems to want a Munni or a Sheila anymore. Here are some of our leading item boys of Bollywood who seem to have given Bollywood’s item girls a run for their money.

Aamir Khan

The actor is the latest and probably the hottest item boy in the list. He appears in a funky retro look in the track I Hate You from the film ‘Delhi Belly’. Aamir’s look and his moves have been heavily inspired by the Mithun and Amitabh Bachchan dance tracks of the 70s. The item number is cool, hilarious, and crass; all at the same time.

Salman Khan

Salman Khan has shown that nothing compares to him when it comes to performing in dance numbers. He has constantly created waves with his dance performances in films like ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Ready’. He also jived to an item song in the film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ alongside Akshay Kumar and ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

Ranbir Kapoor

Relatively a newcomer for the senior actors in the list, Ranbir Kapoor already has an item number to his credit. The actor has donned his father’s look from the film ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ for his item song in the film ‘Chillar Party’ which, co-incidentally, is Katrina Kaif’s ex-boyfriend Salman Khan’s first production.

Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan has quite a number of item numbers to his credit. In fact, he can be said to be the first item boy in Bollywood. His Dard-e-Disco was quite a rage as was Ishq Kamina. His latest item number was for his own home production ‘Always Kabhi Kabhi’ which generated more buzz than the movie itself. Take a look at Shah Rukh Khan’s Bollywood Journey.

Hrithik Roshan

Despite being considered the best dancer in the industry, Hrithik Roshan has only one item number to his name. Hrithik put on his dancing shoes for his home production ‘Krazzy 4’ in which even SRK had performed an item number.

Abhishek Bachchan

Last, and surely not in the least, is AB’s baby and the father or of Ash’s would be baby, Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek showed his hotness quotient in the song ‘One Love’ from the movie ‘Rakht’. The song became an anthem for the youth and also made Abhishek Bachchan a style icon in his own right.

Bollywood Queens Photos Wallpapers Collection

If you thought our actress’ ‘nakhras’ were restricted to the big screen, then here’s the reality check.

As these Bollywood actresses get famous, their starry status gets to their head and they start throwing around tantrums that might even put Queen Elizabeth to shame.

Here are some of our ‘desi’ heroines who ‘kill it’ when it comes to throwing tantrums:

Sonam Kapoor

If reports are to be believed, Sonam Kapoor is the latest one to join league of actresses who throw away tantrums. She threw one such tantrum on the face of the Mausam crew following which she stormed out of the film’s sets. A source from the sets revealed that a couple of days ago she flew over to Chandigarh to shoot for a song early morning. On her arrival to the airport she learnt that she was not allotted a room. After waiting for more than an hour, when she finally had a room to herself, she immediately freshened up and rushed to the sets only to realize that her make-up man, vanity van and spot boys were all missing. As a result, she stormed out of the sets and did not shoot until the crew came to persuade her. Here is her Style Diary.

Mallika Sherawat

Item number queen Mallika Sherawat successfully adds another tantrum to her list. Apparently, for her item number in ‘Bin Bulaye Baraati’, she refused to shoot with other actors like Gulshan Grover, Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Johny Lever. Although they weren’t to dance with her and were only to watch “Her Highness” dance, she refused the shoot with them. Eventually, the actors shot separately for the song which was later added to the item number. Earlier, when she threw tantrums on the sets of reality show ‘Chak Dhoom Dhoom’, she was shown the door.

Anushka Sharma

After the huge success of Band Baja Baraat, Anushka Sharma is one actress in huge demand. Well, looks like she’s also aware of her new star status for, she’s now also called the ‘tantrum queen’ of Bollywood. Anushka’s behavior on the sets of ‘Ladies vs Ricky Bahl’ has been that of some big star, reportedly. When she’s asked to test the lights before the shoot begins, something that even Kareena or Katrina would do, she would send her assistant to stand in the light to get it tested. Well, what can we say? She’s probably just being too protective about her skin!

Katrina Kaif

As per the reports in a popular tabloid. Katrina Kaif recently showed her starry tantrums on a flight when she was traveling for the promotion of ‘Tees Maar Khan’. An airhostess had to tap her on the shoulder out of sleep to get her fasten the seat belt. Katrina, however, woke up and yelled at the airhostess for touching her. There was a commotion in the flight which cooled off only after the airhostess apologized to the star.

Kangana Ranaut

Looks like the actress, famous for playing psychotic roles on- screen is famous for her psychotic behavior off-screen as well. If rumors are to be believed, Kangana, when traveling by air takes her assistant with her. Well, ‘that’ is not the problem. While she travels in first class, the assistant travels in the economy class. And when asked by the airhostesses about what she’d like to eat or drink, she would direct all queries to her assistant, which makes them run all around searching for her assistant and then satisfying her demands.

Indians Who Made it Big in the West

Bollywood cannot really boast of too many stars that have made it big Hollywood.

While actresses like Mallika Sherawat have been trying all their might to find success in Hollywood, it is only a handful of Indian artistes who have created a niche for themselves and are well-recognized in the west.

Here’s a look at celebs who have made us proud in the west:

Later, he also composed for the Danny Boyle movie, ‘127 Hours, in 2010.

Deepa Mehta

Deepa Mehta is an Indian born Canadian film director and screenwriter who started her career making short documentaries in India. Later when she moved to Canada, she launched herself as a screenwriter, writing for children’s films. However, it was only in 1991 that she made her feature film directorial debut with Sam & Me. It won Honorable Mention in the Camera d’Or category of the 1991 Cannes Film Festival. That was followed by movies like Camilla, Fire, Earth, Water, and Bollywood/Hollywood in 2002 for which she won the Genie Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Katrina & Sonakshi's Turf War: Photos, Wallpapers Collection

Even as the alleged war between Katrina & Sonakshi heats up, it's interesting to note that both of Salman's protegees seem to follow the same route in terms of their film careers.

previouskatsona2_300611_630
Kat only worked with the creme de la crème of the industry after the disastrous fate of her debut film 'Boom' and Sona seems to be taking a leaf out of Katrina's book as she's only signing films opposite senior actors.

It may be recalled that after sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and Jackie Shroff in Kaizad Gustad's 'Boom', Katrina made waves with her appearance opposite Salman Khan in 'Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya'. Then came her hit pairing with Akshay Kumar in two consecutive movies – 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye' and 'Namastey London'.

She was part of an ensemble cast that included the entire Deol family in 'Apne' and starred alongside Govinda and Salman in 'Partner'. While she reunited with Akshay Kumar for superhits like 'Welcome' and 'Singh Is Kinng', Katrina romanced Sallu yet again in 'Yuvvraaj' and made her presence felt alongside established stars like Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor in 'Race'.It was only in 2009, that she starred opposite youngsters like Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham in Kabir Khan's 'New York'. Since then, she's also acted alongside Ranbir Kapoor in 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' and 'Raajneeti'.

Sonakshi started her B'Town innings with one of B'Town's biggest stars in 'Dabangg' and is expected to reunite with Salman Khan for the sequel to the superhit as well as for Sajid Nadiadwala's 'Kick'.

In the meantime, she has been shooting with Akshay Kumar for 'Joker'. She will soon work with Kamal Haasan on 'Viswaroopam' and star in 'Race 2' alongside Saif Ali Khan and Anil Kapoor, all established actors of the Hindi film industry.

The strategy certainly seems to have worked for Katrina who is one of the most sought-after actresses in B'Town today. Wonder if Sonakshi is going to follow suit.
